Amaury Bitteti was the dominant name in the BJJ black belt open division for over 10 years, winning everyone and losing to nobody from the mid 80’s to the late 90’s. This video footage from the 97 World Championships shows him winning a match against Fabio Gurgel. Although he does not submit or win his opponent by a large margin of points, his dominance is evident throughout the whole match, specially at the end where Fabio tries it all.

It is a pity there are not many of his matches on YouTube, as his Judo skills and brilliant strategy in the ground inspired a whole generation of new fighters, myself included. Nowadays Bitteti can be seen at Minotauro’s corner in the UFC.
